HBO’s Game of Thrones is television’s most pirated TV show. Last season’s finale episode set a piracy record with 1.5 million people downloading the episode illegally within 12 hours of its release.

In the past, HBO (owned by Time Warner) hasn’t been aggressive in pursuing pirates — or anyone, really, — who watches their content without subscribing to the pay channel. When HBO Go — the mobile and web version of HBO for channel-subscribers — launched, passwords were shared and it seemed okay with the two CEOs involved in the company.
