This is a connection I never made, but according to the UK newspaper The Daily Mirror, Doctor Who thrives under Labour Party governments and suffers under Conservative Party governments. And they have infographics to prove it.

The Daily Mirror compared the average IMDB scores of Doctor Who episodes over the different parties’ control of Parliament, and found that both the pre- and post-hiatus Who scores an average of 0.3 stars higher when Labour is in power than when the Conservative Party runs the country.

It’s an interesting observation, as is the fact that Time and the Rani was broadcast with Margaret Thatcher in power and Blink was broadcast with Tony Blair in power. However, 0.3 stars is statistically insignificant, especially when IMDB scores are determined purely by commenters/users and, therefore, crazy people.

So I reached into the Doctor Who bucket and compared handfuls of the top and bottom episodes of all time, culled randomly from io9’s Doctor Who episode ranking guide. Then I realized that io9’s list isn’t great, considering Love and Monsters, and The Happiness Patrol aren’t in the worst episode section, and Last of the Time Lords was listed under the classic episode section, so I just started picking terrible ones myself. This still isn’t the nerdiest thing I’ve done this week, because I do videos about geek toys.
