- Brik Case lets you cover your MacBook in Lego pixel art
Want to give your MacBook a truly unique look without resorting to stickers? Then you’ve got to get your little yellow minifig mitts on this awesome, Lego-ready cover for your laptop’s lid.
Brik Case is being crowdfunded right now on Kickstarter, and they’ve already smashed their $30,000 goal. In fact, they’ve already secured enough pledges to cover several of their stretch goals. In addition to the default gray case you see at the top, they’ll also be making Brik Case in clear, red, lime green, and blue.
They’re not officially licensed Lego cases, though their early prototypes appear to have been laser-cut from Lego’s own massive base plates. Brik Case studs should, however, allow you to click on Lego, Mega Blok, Kre-O, Kazi, or any other reasonable facsimiles as long as they’re molded to the proper dimensions. You could even 3d-print your own building bricks if you wanted to!
Brik Case is the perfect backdrop for building portable pixel art — and its creators are throwing in a bag of 100 1×1 plates to get you started. You don’t have to stick to flat designs, obviously; you can go three-dimensional, too, as long as you’re not worried about your meticulously-crafted MOCs getting damaged during transport.
You’ll have to hurry if you want to pledge your support, because there are only a few days left until the Brik Case Kickstarter closes. For $35 you’ll get yourself a studded cover that fits a 2013 or later MacBook Pro or MacBook. It’s actually only a modest $5 savings over the projected retail price, so you’re not going to get nailed if you miss out on the pledge perks… but that $5 would also buy you a bunch of extra plates to customize your cover.
